The Aftermath - A story of inspiration and hope

April 5, 2021

In today's podcast, I want to share an inspiring story of strength and resilience. It's a story that exemplifies the spirit of hope in individuals and also the power of community.

Today we're talking with Ben Mailo (known online as Mose Mailo) and the devastating floods that have changed life for him and his family in the past few weeks.

Ben shares the heartbreaking journey that his family has been through, but you'll also get an insight into how their values about what's truly important and the ability to stay upbeat and positive - even in the face of extraordinary obstacles has empowered them to ride out this storm.

Ben shares the story of a wonderful community that has rallied together to support one another and I am inviting you to become a part of that community - be someone who makes a difference to Ben and his family.

Let's get into Ben's story...

Here's the highlights:

  • [10:44] The community act together to rebuild—neighbors helping fix homes without any charges or hesitation.

  • [13:02] With the degree of devastation that we've seen, we expected more breakdowns and tears. But it's been good, ironically. Because none of us were hurt. The stuff lost was just material possessions. As much as we value our stuff, at the end of the day, we can live without it.

  • [14:18] Success became more simple. Keeping the things that we actually value is more important. All the material stuff can be replaced. The most important thing is the person that you are and the people you have with you.

  • [16:56] Home is a space that gives you a sense of belongingness, safety, and familiarity, an open environment with a sense of peace and serenity, and a place wherein you spend time with people that you really appreciate.

  • [18:47] There is joy in working together to rebuild what was destroyed by the flood.

  • [20:24] The Gofundme page is not to rebuild the house or replace the lost possession, but to revive Ben's parents' tools to rebuild their lives.

"At the snap of a finger, everything can change. The most important thing is the person you are and the people you have with you."
