Wez has ridden the roller coaster of life - the ups and downs, and he has some great stories to tell, but one of his great strengths is his no-fuss, always-learning, always growing attitude.
He shares from a firm conviction and confidence that business was and is always going to be "his thing" and he is genuinely excited about helping 'Kingdom Entrepreneurs' scale their business and use their success to have a positive influence on our current culture.
Wez is a family man, happily married to Kimberly and blessed with three beautiful girls, he shares with us how he navigates a busy schedule with balance and purpose. You'll hear about the importance of the 'mind-game' in business and life and Wez shares some simple but effective strategies he uses to ensure he is looking after his own lifestyle balance.
Of course if you want to empower yourself with positive purpose and clarity around your OWN personal strength, impact in the world and what you need to focus on for growth right now - then you need to take the Lifestyle Design Quiz! Let’s get into the podcast…
Here's the highlights:
[03:19] All events in my life growing up are wonderful and brought great learnings. I'm not particularly academic. I was more interested in getting life skills. Business has always been my thing.
[05:16] I learned what I didn't like from my environment, which helped me shape what I do want. I think I spotted the system while I was really young and thought that's not for me. And so I decided I want to explore something different.
[07:25] Christians in Business vs Kingdom Entrepreneurs. Kingdom entrepreneurs have a higher calling, a much higher standard of doing business. They are grounded to what God wants for humanity, how He wants business people to use their talents and to build businesses for the sake of advancing the Kingdom. While Christians in business, they often express their faith superficially but do not create a change in culture.
[10:15] My purpose in the marketplace: To see the business world in Australia focusing on serving others rather than self-interest. Produce enough Kingdom entrepreneurship practitioners. I believe we can create top-down change in the marketplace.
[12:11] Success is balancing the 5 F's: Working and growing through all aspects-- Faith, Family, Finance, Fitness, and Fun.
[15:32] Try to create different models so people can find where they fit best. Small groups are the best. We have to balance business and what works for the individuals.
[19:43] I've made a lot of mistakes. And I've been willing to make more mistakes than most people. In school, we are so scared of failing but it doesn't get the best out of people. In business, you need to be willing to take risks all day every day. If you're prepared to look internally, take responsibility for it and take the lessons and decide not to do it again, then it's inevitable that you've built something great. Don't dwell in the past mistakes because there's going to be more in the future.
[21:59] The biggest struggle you can have every single day is to want the easy road. You have to find a bigger reason for doing it.
[26:03] The first 80% of success has to happen inside your head. Strategies are nothing if we do not set our minds to see success. It's our identity, how we see ourselves, that makes the massive difference.
"The first 80% of success has to happen inside your head. Strategies are nothing if we do not set our minds to see success."
